Virtual Reality Game Subscriptions
Play high quality games on any device in the cloud without the need for local high performance hardware
Introduction To VR Gaming Subscriptions
The whole promise around virtual reality technology is centered around experiences. Experiences that are as true to life as possible without actually being real. It’s about immersion, and the feeling of being fully involved.
So gaming is the perfect application for virtual reality, and the good news is there is a way to get your virtual reality games on subscription. It’s unsurprising that VR gaming hasn’t taken off in the way it was anticipated to – given the costs of the hardware involved to get the best experiences – so subscribing may be a cost effective way (once you have the hardware) to try out a range of games and see what works.
The operators providing this service are currently in a minority of one! That’s Viveport Infinity.
We should note at this point that subscribing is not the only way to try out VR gaming, you can go to SteamVR or Oculus for buying options.
Here we’ll focus on how Viveport functions, what’s good or bad, which games are available, and take a look at the subscription options and pricing.
News & Offers
Viveport Infinity is not just there for subscribing gamer’s, but also for games developers. In a recent announcement, Viveport stated that they’ll be waving any revenue from developed games on the platform and giving 100% of the income straight back to the developers.
Starting from November 1st and running to the end of 2020, the scheme will allow developers to opt-in for the deal across any of the product categories, including one off purchases, Infinity subscriptions, Viveport for VR arcades, and the in-app purchase service.
Nov 2020 Saints and Sinners Promotion
Sign up for an annual subscription and you’ll get a free copy of this horror genre title. It’s a good deal when you look at the figures which would come out at roughly $40 if you bought the game vs approx. $100 for the subscription. Effectively you’re getting the year’s membership for around $60.
You can sign up for Infinity with a digital code from Amazon.

Best Game Titles
Choosing the best of anything always relies on a number of factors, and that certainly applies to individual games too. The best for excitement? The best for a feeling of reality? The best adventure? etc etc
Some of the best games on the platform include Containment Initiative, Vox Machinae, and Crisis VRigade.

Vox Machinae

We’ll take a look at some more another time, but for now there’s probably no better place to go than the site that’s dedicated to virtual reality – UploadVR – for a deeper list of some of the best titles.

Video Guides
As always, Youtube is the place to go and there are plenty of virtual reality game subscription videos in the list available.
This one below is a good place to start and takes you through some of the better games you can find on the platform.
Positives
The benefits of virtual reality gaming – whether on subscription or not – are obviously seen to best advantage in the immersive nature of the games. If done well, they really do add an extra dimension to games.
The positives in Viveport Infinity specifically centre around reasonably priced subscription options which offer arguably some of the best value of any subscription services, alongside a fairly impressive games library. It’s not called Infinity for nothing, with the intent in the name being an infinitesimal choice of gaming. The reality is if you took the top fifteen or so titles on the platform, these alone would make it worth the annual fee.
Aside from all this, a membership also gives you 10% off content once per month at checkout, exclusive offers and 2x discounts on weekend deals.
Of course, Infinity have no competition except for the places you can buy VR games. But they’ve clearly gone all out to create a desirable product.
Negatives
Some subscribers who also have experience with the Steam or Oculus games offers find that the Infinity library is not as extensive when compared, even though what it does have is still a great range of games (and other VR apps). You might say that none of these are premium titles though, with the likelihood you’ll noticel that once running through the top titles you’ll get the feeling that many of the remainder are cheap games.
There is a possibility that if you take up a year long plan, and then either play through the only games you find appealing or just plain don’t end up liking the VR gaming experience, then you’ll have wasted some money.
Resources – More Info
There’s a bunch of useful info on this campaign page on the Infinity site , and a whole lot more on the site forum. The official Facebook page is here, with Twitter here if that’s your preference. All of these are good for extra info, support, and finding out about new game releases or upcoming special offers.
Aside from these official Infinity pages there are of course a number of discussions on Reddit around virtual reality game subscriptions in general.
Summary
All in all a reasonably good subscription service if you want to try out VR gaming. No doubt Viveport will look at some point to improving the line-up of titles and try to get some more premium type gaming experiences on the menu, but for now Viveport Infinity – although the only place to go or subscription-based virtual reality gaming – is probably going to offer enough interest to warrant spending your cash each month. In the end, that’ll be down to you and whether you enjoy the whole experience around VR or find you prefer your gaming ‘traditional-style’.
