Introduction To Crate Game Subscriptions 

You might be thinking that crate subscriptions are similar to game rental services, and they are. There’s a subtle distinction though, in that with a rental you’ll be choosing game titles yourself from a library, whereas with a crate subscription what you get is a  surprise. The service operators choose what’s in your crate for you, and it’s mailed to your door.

Now these crates – sometimes also referred to as loot or box subscriptions – are not always just about games. They might include – or be totally based on – game related merchandise or products. Some operators follow this model, some just focus on supplying games.

Those operators running this type of service are not great in number, so it’s going to be easy to cover the main ones here.

In the US, Gamethrill is the name to know. With three subscription options, Gamethrill subscribers are promised  ”an awesome subscription service that offers cheap various games in classic loot style”.

Loot Crate Gaming is a UK based operation, but the interesting thing with these guys is they’ll ship to a whole raft of different countries. No actual games, but Loot Crate’s boxes contain merchandise delivered each month related to games, TV, movies, or pop culture. 

The third on the list is UK-based Zatu Games. Included here for variety, Zatu is a board game provider rather than video gaming.
